What a difference a decade makes!

Over the last decade, the number of published original articles published in Australian Critical Care has increased fourfold. This parallels the rapid rise in the amount of academic research being published worldwide where there are now approximately three million manuscripts submitted to journals every year. The tremendous pressure for researchers to publish their work has been increasingly tied to academic promotion within universities, health services, and research centres, and is, in part, responsible for the rapid growth in number of articles published annually.
